Dr Shamitha's parents say that singing is in her blood, and has shown a great talent from a very young age. Though life took many turns for her, wavering away from her real interests, she was always passionate about music and her singing capacity.

She was initially bestowed with no formal training in music, but had the blessings of her mother who is a proficient singer and her first tutor. According to her, it is her parents who had the will and determination and have been great role models to her.

Academically, she holds a degree in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S) from Vokkaligara Sangha Dental College, KIMS, Bangalore and a Bachelor of Arts in Hindi Prachar Sabha, Chennai.

Bestowed with creative and music instincts, she is passionate about writing poems and short stories, pencil sketching, ceramic art work, dancing & photography. These activities keep her busy and focused, which boosts her creative lifestyle.

She was born in Thirthahalli, Shimoga. She is the daughter of Prof. U.V. Ramachandra & H.G. Sunanda and has two brothers Sharath and Gautam. She is married to Arun Kumar. D.K a software engineer and they have two lovely children- Advaith Hegde and Shadjaa Hegde.

She is a Dentist, Cine Playback Singer, Composer, Anchor, Dubbing and Voice Artist by profession.

Being the disciple of Hindustani music maestro Late Pandith Sheshadri Gawai, she started her career as a playback singer in the year 1994 by singing for the "KANIVE KABBALI" devotional album on an auspicious day of Shivarathri.

She has about 24 years of experience as a Sugama Sangeetha Singer and 19 years of experience as a Cine playback singer in the Kannada film industry. She entered into Cine Playback singing from the movie "NINAGAAGI" with the help of the famous music director, Gurukiran. She has sung for about 550 feature films. With her versatile expertise, she has performed in various genres like filmy, western, folk, theatrical songs, bhavageethe, re-mixes, devotional and vachanas.

She has recorded about 4500 cassettes in 11 languages i.e. Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Konkani, Marathi, Thulu, Kodava, Gujarathi, Lambani, and Malayalam for leading audio cassette companies under the able direction of great music directors. She did recently step into the Telugu film industry by singing a song for the feature film "Nagavalli".

With her profound singing abilities she has had the privilege to work with many leading music directors of Kannada film industry i.e. Hamsalekha, Gurukiran, Harikrishna, Manomurthy, Rajesh Ramanath, Sadhukokila, Kalyan, V.Manohar, R.P.Patnayak, Arjun, Sandeep Chowta, Karthik Raja, L.N.Shasthri, Valisha Sandeep etc. She has also performed with iconic singers like Dr Raj, SPB, Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, Kunal Ganjaavala, Mano, Rajesh Krishnan, Vijay Prakash etc.

So far, she has successfully released 10 solo albums in Kannada & Telugu which includes remixed versions of L R Eshwari's songs and composed 8 poems written by Padmashree Prof. K S Nisar Ahamed and released the same under the title "MILANAOTSAVA". Further as a composer, she has also composed 3 ballet dance dramas and one title song. Her yet another important achievement is the album made for kids "Kanda ni Hadonda" written by the notable lyricist Bagur Markandeya, which Dr Shamitha fondly remembers along with singing with kids for the album.


It fills her with pride to mention that she has been privileged to sing devotional songs along with Dada Saheb Phalke Awardee Dr RAJKUMAR and cherishes those timeless moments.
